Keeping in mind environmental and health aspects, the idea of ’Car Free Day’ or a private car-free day began, whose main purpose was to get people interested in eco-friendly transportation.
But how possible is it to
implement such an idea in a city like Dhaka?
Various arrangements were
made on Saturday to close a section of Manik Mia Avenue in front of the
Parliament House in Dhaka to celebrate World Car Free Day. Balloons, posters,
banners of various shapes and colors were arranged in front of the Parliament
building. Members of various children’s organizations also participate in many
activities, such as dancing, singing, painting.
But it would not be a
mistake to say the formality of showing the whole event to the people, as
compared to other days, the number of cars on the streets of Dhaka was not less
in any part.
Carriage-free Day is
celebrated in different countries of the world since the seventies for the
purpose of encouraging people to use public transport, to increase the
popularity of cycling or walking in order to create environment and health
Why people do not want to
use public transport in Dhaka?
How realistic is it to
motivate people to use public transportation or walk on foot in cities like Dhaka?
Nusrat Amin, a
non-governmental organization working in Dhaka, said, “The state of mass
transit in Dhaka is such that people do not use public transport unless
As a woman, using public
transport in Dhaka or walking on the streets is embarrassing. Amin.
“It takes 20 minutes to
walk from my home to the office on a walk. But in that short walk you have to
listen to the nasty comments from people on the sidewalk and walk carefully to
protect yourself, and no longer have the desire to walk the next day,”
said Mis. Amin.
She also said that she
suffered from insecurity in the streets after evening as a woman. Nusrat Amin.
Steering wheel in hand, brake under foot. The car is speeding. What could be more exciting than that? And that was the thrill that Touhid Anwar got from childhood. This is a car racer in Bangladesh known as Avik Anwar in the international world of Formula Race. The bronze medalist of car racing won the Formula One Track Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia last August. Avik Anwar has emerged on the international medal stage as the first racer of Bangladesh. The young man from Munshiganj finished third in the fourth round of the Malaysian Championship Series.
The way the dream started
Father Anwar Hossain’s has car
business. From a young age, he grew up watching cars of different brands. He
would often visit his father’s shop and touch the car. Then the hobby woke up
to do something different with the car. Then he learned to drive in secret
without telling his father. At that time he watched Formula on TV. He watched
the running in the blink of an eye of world-renowned racer Michael Schumacher, Mika
Hakkinen. One day he dreamed to be like them.
Avik’s car shop in Gulshan,
Dhaka. Avik said at 4 September, “I used to watch Formula One on a regular
basis. After watching Michael Schumacher’s racing one day, it seemed like, oh,
if I could run like that, starting from that.”
Fight with myself
There is no racing track in any of the motorsports in Bangladesh. There is no car racing instructor as well as other facilities. But that did not stop Avik Anwar. He relied on Play station games and simulators. He played Tourismo Sport at the Play Station. Friends would often laugh and say, ‘What if playing these unreal games?’ He couldn’t explain to his friends that how similar the game really is to driving a car. Finally, when I went to Canada for higher studies in 2007, there was a chance to practice.
From the pizza shop to the
Car racing is an expensive
sport. Practicing also means big numbers of money. Avi might have taken that
money from his father’s bank account. But he didn’t take it. In Canada, he
worked at a pizza delivery facility. Sometimes worked at a restaurant, or
worked part time in the library. By doing these things he bought a car with saving
money. He practiced regularly on the practice track in Canada. Avik also
realizes his potential in car racing when he practices. He returned to Dhaka
after completing his studies in 2012.
Avik took part in the rally cross, the only motor sports competition in Bangladesh so far from 20014. Hat-trick champion has been made by him in that car racing competition in Dhaka. But the last time he was ahead of the car in the backdrop a lot. That confidence gives him the courage to race in the international arena, ‘the first twice to be the first to break the micro-second. But when I became a champion in 2016, I saw the second racer lagging behind me for the time being. Then I thought about going to India.
After that, Avik was fourth in the Volkswagen Cup in India at 2017 for the first time participation. Which reflects his confidence in the new breeze; “after being fourth in the Volkswagen Amio Cup, I was inspired. Then I played on the Madras Car Racing track. It was very difficult to play there. But from the beginning of this year, it seemed that I would focus fully on the race. I must win a race.”
Playing after business control
There is no opportunity for practice in the country. So often go abroad for practice. He also drew attention from businessmen for the practice of race. Within a week of practice, he wishes to be disconnected from all social media, including cell phones, Facebook. Then just go from the hotel to the race track, come back to the hotel after practice. During the exercise some data from the race track is provided on the laptop. From there, sitting on a laptop, he sees the weakness of his game. He tries to understand where to improve.
It is a difficult task to concentrate
solely on business, it is clear in Avik’s words, ‘I am playing because I am
very interested in racing. But in addition to business, it is very difficult to
do. Because, every day, thousands of cars have to be talked about, see banking,
LC (Letter of Credit), purchase etc. ‘
Formula racing is one of the
most unusual sports in the country. But even in this game, Avik sees the
possibility, ‘It is true that there is no infrastructure in our country. The
poverty rate in this country is high. People may think, where many are not able
to eat, they are racing. It’s the downside. But the positive side is that if
there is really a chance to play, many young people will not get addicted to
drugs. Because, I know, young people have a lot of love for cars. The car will
then cost you money. They don’t lean towards drugs. The race will also reduce
the tendency to run on the road. They will think, they cannot get anything by
driving a car. But they will be rewarded by driving a race. Then they will stop
The flag of Bengal on the
chest of the world
After winning a medal in
Malaysia, Avik was in the dreaming world, ‘I couldn’t believe it in the
beginning. Believe me later, I got it. I told myself that after two years, the
dream finally came true.’ The path of the Formula One track in Bangladesh
started with Avik’s hand. Who knows maybe one day a red-green flag will fly at
the Formula One Championship. Life is speed; there is nothing to stop here.
Avik is a symbol of that momentum. He does not want to stop. Want to run further.
Decide which car to buy. Here are some things to know from the car dealer.
For example, how many years has the car been used, when the car was built, and
now how the mileage is being provided means that a liter of fuel goes the way.
Keep your budget in mind when choosing a car. At the same time, you need to
calculate the amount of fuel per kilometer you can use when using a car. That
is, the budget is not just a car, but also a car expense after buying.
You also need to know the current price of the car you have chosen. If you walk
around a few showrooms, you will understand the market prices. You can also go
to the second-hand car showroom.
However, it is better to buy directly from the user than the old car
showroom. Bought from someone better known. Because, in this case, it is
possible to know exactly how he used the car.
Now take a good look and find out if there is any fault with the car.
Whether there is a broken or scratched spot on the outside or inside. Find out
It is important to know why the car is being sold, whether it has caused an
accident or not. It is best to seek the help of a known mechanic to determine
if there is a problem with the vehicle.
Before buying a car, you must test-drive it. While driving, be aware that
any unusual sounds are heard. Even at this time, a partner should be kept who
is aware of car.
Check the car’s papers. Find out how long the tax is credited. Find out if
the vehicle has an accident-related case and the owner or driver has a history
of crime. Never buy papers if insurance, pollution control etc are not right.
Know the safety and security of the car you are about to buy. If an older
model car is going to buy, know if their car parts are available in the spare
parts market, you should also find out.
If you buy a car from the dealer, seek at least one year warranty. And if
you have any doubts about the car’s license, contact the BRTA office to find
In Sreepur’s cotton research, training and seed extension farm in Gazipur, several cars are now on the verge of collapse after falling under the open sky. Authorities did not take any action to protect these vehicles from years after years. The actual number of these vehicles or information related to them is not stored.
According to data from Sreepur’s
Cotton Research, Training and Seed Extension Farm, the government of Bangladesh
formed the Cotton Development Board at 1972 to expand cotton cultivation in the
country, since the country’s independence, the main raw material of cotton producing
was stopped. Currently, the work of expanding cotton cultivation through five
regional offices is underway across the country.
Of these, the 152-acre area
is one of the central farms of Sreepur in Gazipur. For a long time the
mechanized damaged cars of these farms were brought to this farm in Sreepur,
due to lack of storage space at various times.
However, the authorities
have not made any decision regarding these cars. Authorities have not been able
to provide the exact details of the vehicles, according to the documents,
although 22 vehicles have been found under the open sky at present. The cars
include jeeps, minibuses and trucks. That market value is several million takas.
GM Farhad Hossain, a Crop
Agri farmer at Sreepur Cotton Research, Training and Seed Extension Farm, said
the vehicles were brought here from other farms at different times after the
farm was established. But we have no information about these cars. Though the
cars worth crores of takas fall under the open sky, no decision has been made
on the cars yet.
What to do if the car
suddenly stops on the road? Or some of the main reasons why your car may not
The main reason for not starting the car may be the absence of battery
charge. Many times, keeping the engine off of the car for long periods of time,
keeping the lights on, or turning on the AC or running a CD DVD, the battery
may end up charging. If you still see the horn sounds, head lights can on and
you think the battery charge is low then you can start the car by jumping on
the cable from the vehicle’s battery by requesting the driver of another
vehicle on the road.
Due to problems with the ignition switch many times the car may not start.
In that case, with the shift lever in the left hand, you move from P to N and N
to P, and continue to start the car in the right hand.
The starter motor of the car can also be the cause not being started many
times. The vehicle starter motor may become jam or the connection may lose. The
car’s starter motor is likely to be jammed after running 1,000 km. In that case
you can start the car with the help of one. With a range or iron rod in your
hand, attach the body of the starter motor to the engine body and gently hit
one and letting the engine start working can be done.
If the Push Start car has remote key, the car cannot be start when its
battery damaged. In that case you can bring the remote key to the monitor and
push it and see if the car starts. If it does not work, enter the remote key to
the push button and start the car slowly. Later change the battery of the
When the engine over hits, the car will not start but how do you know that the
engine is over-hit? Look at the engine meter where the meter indicator is. If
the meter indicator is between C and F, then the engine overheats, and then
restarts when the engine cools down.
There may be other reasons why the car is not started, such as the dirt
trash on the Exhaust pipe, or if someone closes it himself.
There are many other reasons such as there is no fuel in the car, no engine
oil, no mission oil.
