Bengali Hut-Shaped Structure Dhaka
Within the Pilkhana area, a little beyond New Market we get another memorial of old – a little structure of the shape of a Bengali hut. This is easily approached from the back door of Pilkhana from Satmasjid Road. Built of brick and plaster, a small rectangular room is covered over with a double-sided pent roof (do-chala) with gable-ends at the sides and drooping eves in front and at the back. It is the transplantation in brick of a type of bamboo hut found in Bengal. It may be dated to 17th century A. D.
The structure is, at present, overgrown with bushes and jungles, and now stands within the military area.
