Unknown Tombs Near Satgumbad Mosque Dhaka

The tomb (pl. 45.1&45.2) stands about 100 yards to the north-east of the Satgumbad Mosque near Muhammadpur Colony. The Person buried is not known, but Aulad Hassan surmises that it entombs one of the daughters of Shaista Khan. The tomb stands on an elevated spot and makes a perfect square from outside. The walls are very thick. The main entrance on the north opens under a high multi-cusped archway, which itself is contained within a projected bay bordered by slender turrets. The whole face is profusely panelled. The interior has its corners scooped out for squinch, thus giving it the shape of an octagon. Above the squinch rests the coping arch, which originally supported the flat vault, now fallen. The western side shows a mihrab and the other two openings, which originally had marble screens, are now closed. The building is now in a neglected condition.
